I saved a .txt file as an Excel workbook, but surprisingly, I do not see an xls extension, I see the same .txt
Wouldn't you think Excel you change that?

Well... the best Excel format is obviously "Microsoft Excel workbook", which
you can set below the file list in the Save dialog. You may also want to
check the box "Append file extension", which will automatically put .xls
after the file name.
