Saved Word doc and all margins, formatting, etc. were lost???????

I typed a resume using Word. I changed my font to Ariel and I had several
different formatting issues thru out the doc. I saved the document to my
document and also to a 31/2" floppy disc. When I went back to the saved docs
(in both places) the file was saved completely different from what I typed.
At the end of the saved doc there are a couple of pages of gobbledegook - two
of the lines read as follows:

Valued Gateway ClienteC:\Documents and Settings\default\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of KIMBERLY K asd

The saved document is now no good to me. Why did this happen and how can I
stop it from happening again?
