saved word document now garbled.

Hello fellow users.

Has anyone ever saved a Word doc in the OS X environment and then had
it look like the sample below when you re-opened the doc? IF so, how
did you fix it?

My document (an important piece for publication goes on for 14 pages
like that). I really need to retrieve it if I can.
Any help would be MOST appreciated.

Hello, Doctor,

Were you using Microsoft Word to save the file or a different program that
writes compatible files, say AppleWorks, maybe?

What you posted is the XML code for an AppleWorks document *%APLWORKSET
START

Try opening the file in AppleWorks and see if it opens OK.
