Saves Template upon Close

MS Word 2002 saves the normal.dot each upon close each time, even if there is
not a change within a document. It does it in existing and new files. It
takes approx. 10 seconds to close the application because of this.

Any ideas on how to eliminate this or at least reduce wait time. I already
have "Allow Fast Saves" checked in the Options Menu.

Well, first of all, disable "Allow fast saves" immediately, as it is a
prescription for disaster. Then read “Word prompts me to save changes to the
Normal.dot templateâ€

I disabled the Allow Fast Saves and read the article. Interesting, but none
of the scenerios matched mine exactly. I do not even get prompted for the
Saving Normal.dot.

Is this to be expected with the FAST SAVES feature or is there something
else I need to be concened with?

Do you have "Prompt to save Normal template" checked on the Save tab of
Tools | Options? If you do, you should get a prompt. And if you *are*
prompted every time Word closes, then there is almost certainly a poorly
written add-in to blame.
