I have noticed some strange behaviour while saving Word 2004 documents
containing graphics (PICT format. Earlier, I thought the problem was
related to saving to an os x server (even posted in this group). Now, I
have established it is related to the fact that the files contains a
fair number of pict-graphics.
What happens is this: when I open the Word 2004 document and make a
change, then save it, it takes very long to save the document (about
10-15 seconds for a file containing about 100 picts, 2-3 times longer
than with Word vX).
I keep the document open, make another change, then save again, and it
takes not so long to save the document (about 2 seconds). Again making a
change, then saving, and faster saving continues until I save and close.
If I then re-open the document and save it, it again takes very long to
save.
In short: after opening a document if I save for the first time, it
takes forever, second and subsequent saves take substantially shorter.
I tried using Tiffs instead of Picts and then saving the files does not
take as long as using picts. Problem is that, in our company, we have
used Picts in Word vX a lot (mainly because they print a lot faster than
Tiffs in a Word document). So changing this would take a considerable
effort.
Has anyone experienced this as well? Any fixes?
Thanks in advance.
