Saving a document

Well, there are currently at least 10 different versions of Microsoft Word
in common use on a variety of different operating systems - each combination
of which has it's own characteristics. Knowing which one you happen to be
using would make it far more possible to zero in on a solution :)

Sorry, "CyberTaz," for not being specific. I'm using Office 2003 on a Gateway
laptop. I somehow deleted the "save" option when I tried to insert an "em" in
my document with "alt 0151." Thanks for your help.

AFAIK Alt 0151 is the correct stroke for an em dash and I have no idea how
it could cause anything to disappear from the menu. I have a feeling that it
may have been coincidental & that there must be more to the issue. However,
you've posted to the group for Word on the Mac. Although many of the
regulars here know the program well on both systems technical issues are
considerably different so you'll be better off asking in one of the Windows
groups for Word - but make sure to specify your exact Office update level &
your version of Windows when you do. Start from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/FlyoutOverview.mspx

Before doing so you might try using Tools> Customize, select the Menu Bar by
clicking its *name* on the Toolbars page & clicking the Reset button. If
that doesn't correct it you can use the Commands page of that same dialog
to select File from the Categories list & drag a fresh copy of the save
command up into the File Menu or drag the File menu from the menu bar then
from the Built-in Menus category drag a fresh File menu up to replace it.
