Saving a File - Error

We are getting a [The Instruction at "0x300a3340" referenced memory at "0x013c007b" The Memory could not be "read".
error when trying to save one particular file
The file is 694KB in size, has 5 worksheets with around 300-350 entries per sheet. It uses a drop-down box to list all entries in a column from which you can select an entry and display only those records that have that entry in that column. (I don't know how this was done
When the error occurs, a numbered file is saved in the same folder as the file, ie "F1F73000" (no extension). When opening the file with notepad, I see that it has a bunch of jumbled stuff and some of the entries from the excel file that wouldn't save. This error occurs on all computers we've tried (20 or so) and with all updates (SP3, plus latest security releases) to Office. This is a critical file
Any Ideas?

Turns out the menu sort thing was the "Auto Filter" feature
The problem was an invalid formula in the spreadsheet

This was fixed by opening the program on a Windows XP box with Office XP installed. (Originally this was on a Windows 2000 machine). XP found the error in the file and "removed one or more invalid formulas"
