saving a mac excel file in windows excel

Here is my problem- I create a workbook using mac excel and other employees open this workbook in windows excel and update it- but when they try to resave it it gives them an error that tells them they cannot save the file?????????? why??????

I don¹t know why. Is the file on a server? Do they have write access? Did
you close the file before they tried to open it? What exactly is the error?
How did you get the file to the users on windows?

I upload it to a project management site we use then they download it to their computers. They have write access. The error just says "cannot save file"

tried direct email- nothing works- i have sent different excel files to different people and they can open it and view it but if they try and make changes and resave it it just says "document cannot be saved"- they are working in office 2004. it is imperative that i am able to create spreadsheets and have windows users adjust them and resave them- please help!

It is only a certain type of worksheet- i can email it if i need to... other worksheets i created work fine- but these are specifically tracking reports- even the blank one that just have formulas do this- even before i enter the info.....arg!
