I don't know why it would do something like this. You can just save it as a
..ppt file and then change the extension to .pps I would check and make sure
that you have all the necessary updates for your version. When your viewing
your presentation as a slide show you cannot save is by design. You can only
save your presentation when your in the edit mode.

I am trying to save a power point show as a slide presentation. For whatever
reason when I go to "file, save as, and save type as (power point show) it
is
converting it to a text only document. I have version 2000. Anyone have any
idea's or work arounds to this one? I can view it as a slide show, but when
I'm viewing it I don't have any save options. Thank you in advance.
Hi Michael, thank you for your reply. As far as I know I have all available updates. I'm a student and I had problems with a newsletter assignment I had last week too. It was in two column form and when I would go to save it the computer would convert it to a one page doc. I finally figured out that I had to save it in two steps, saving the left column first and then the right column. I went back in just now and tried to save the power point doc as a slide presentation using the ..ppt after the title and it just saved a new copy of the template I used to create the document, instead of saving it as a slide show. I can't turn in the entire template, just the slide presentation. Thank you again. I have no idea on this one. I know my computer is quite old, but wouldn't think that would have anything to do with the ability to save, but maybe??
