Saving a word document in PDF format

I have only been able to save or convert a word document

by using full version of Adobe...If you e-mail, I can
convert and e-mail back to you.

Hi Amy,

You need to have Adobe Acrobat (the full version, not the
free reader) installed. Assuming you do, you can either:

- Click File-> Print
- In the Name box, choose Acrobat Distiller
- Click OK.

or:

- Click the red/gray 'Convert to Adobe PDF' toolbar button.
- Wait.

The first method is quicker. The second method takes a
while for a long document and may produce a substantially
larger PDF. However, it adds more features to the PDF,
most notably a set of navigational bookmarks (visible in
Acrobat's "Bookmarks" tab) that correspond to the built-in
Word heading styles in the document (if you've used them),
enabling you to jump to a specific section of the PDF
with one click -- much like Word's similar but sometimes
buggy Document Map feature. These can be very convenient
if the Word document's heading styles were used properly
and very embarrassing if they weren't.

You can get the Acrobat writer (not the viewer) from Adobe, but it's
expensive. It'll produce PDF files from any application.

Adobe also has an on-line service with a free trial:

There are a few alternative less expensive pdf writing programs and
services, but I haven't tried any of them. Check out

Despite what the other three posters have told you, you do NOT need
the expensive Adobe Acrobat product to create PDF files. There are
several good distillers out there that are free (or cheap) that enable
you to create PDF files from just about any Windows application. I
use one called PDF995: <www.pdf995.com>.

There are also free (or cheap) editors out there that permit you to
work with PDF files after you create them -- e.g., edit .pdf files
directly or digitally sign them. See <www.software995.com> for
examples.

Have you received a response to this? I have the same
question. I know of some people who have the PDF icon
right on their toolbar - but I can't figure out how to
get that on my toolbar even though I have the full
professional version.

You will not have the PDF toolbar unless you have the PDFMaker.dot or
PDFMakerA.dot add-in in Word's Startup folder. Try reinstalling Acrobat?
