I've downloaded two different business letter tamplates from the Microsft
site, following the instructions that I've copied below, and using Option B
from Step 5. A "Copying..." window opens with the usual folder-to-folder
animation, AND a "File Download/Do you want to save this file?" window opens.
The copying activity doesn't do anything (I've left it running for sevral
minutes). The copy activity just copies the .dotx file into a target folder,
but doesn't actually extract the template.
I'm using Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2 and MS Office 2003 Pro SP.
Can anyone help me to get the templates to open in MS Word?
1. Click the Download Now button below.
2. The template downloads as a compressed file called a cabinet (.CAB) file.
3. In the File Download dialog box, click Save.
4. Select the folder where you want to save the compressed file, and then
click Save.
5. Open the folder where you saved the compressed file, and then
double-click the file.
Use one of the following methods to extract the template from the compressed
file:
A) If the file opens in WinZip® or another decompression program, use the
program to extract the template from the compressed file. After extracting
the file, you can double-click the template to open it in the program it was
designed for.
B) If the compressed file opens in a regular window, double-click the
template file, select the folder where you want to save the template, and
then click Extract. The template extracts to the location you chose and the
dialog box closes. The window for the compressed version of the template will
still be open. Close it. Now locate the folder that you saved the
uncompressed template to, and then double-click the template to open it.
