Saving any MS ACCESS .mdb file to a USB Flash Drive corrupts it

Nigel

I am using a Sony 4GB USB 2 Flash Drive to store both MS Access97 and 2003
databases. When I try to run these databases, or reload to the PC Hardrive, I
get the error message "unrecognisable database format". Every other type of
document I save to the Flash Drive is perfectly OK. It is only .mdb files
that are getting corrupted. Please help.

Are you trying to open the Access 2003 files with Access 97? That would
result in the error message.

No, I have two machines.. one running 97, the other 2003... I've ensured the
two get get mixed up

I use 2 different flash drives and never had a problem with database files
(open directly from flash drive or open a copy on the hard-disk which was
copied from a flash drive.

However, open directly on the flash drive is not recommended. I find it is
much faster to run the database from the hard-disk compared with database on
the flash drive.

Thanx.... What does confound me is that it is ONLY mdb files that the Flash
Drive corrupts, regardless of their size, or computer origin, absolutely
everything else I save to it is perfectly sound.

I tried to save on a Flash Drive -> OK
I Tried working on Flash Drive -> OK

Did you use 'Secure Remove Hardware' before
deconnecting Drive?

Yes, I used the "secure dismount" for the drive. I've tried enabling and
disabling the write cacheing as well... same result. I've even renamed the
extension from .mdb to .doc, then back again to .mdb - same story
