I have an issue with 2 computers in our office that have the same problem.
They are running XP Pro SP2 (one from an upgrade and one new install).
The upgraded computer has Microsoft Office 2000, but with Outlook 2003.
The new computer has Office 2003 Basic.
In both computers the users are experiencing a complete halt of the
system for about 3 to 5 minutes anytime they want to add an attachment or
save an attachment to an e-mail. It occurs when Outlook browses and is
trying to present the network to the users. It doesn't just occur once on
each e-mail, but each time they change a directory or drive to find the file
they want to attach. For Example if they were looking for
M:\test1\test2\test3\file.txt the delay would occur 4 times. Once for
choosing the M drive, once for test1, once for test2 and finally for test3.
At 3-5 minutes a delay this e-mail could take up to 20 minutes to attach
anything to. This also occurs if they are trying to save an attachment from
an e-mail to the network.
I have tried re-installing outlook 2003, repairing outlook 2003,
removing the MSN messanger tie in, downloading all the updates, archiving and
even compacting, but I have no clue why outlook is having trouble viewing the
network, when there is no trouble through Windows Explorer.
Does anyone have any idea why Outlook is acting this way and perhaps
how to speed Outlook up permanently.
Thank you in advance for all your help,
Lauren
