Saving Back End of Databse on SharePoint?

The users of my database are from different department therefore it hard for
us to find a common shared drive where I can save the back end on. My
question is: is Sharepoint be considered a shared drive? Or can I utilize
SharePoint to make this databse splitting possibe? If so, how?
