Saving Changed Document

Marisa,

You've not opened a document, but a document template
(e.g., *.doc). You can save the template to a new name, or
overwrite the existing one. Be careful however if you are
not familiar with templates.

You access the available templates by using File | New,
the organizer, or templates and add-ins. In short, try
opening a document, or file ending in something other than
dot and you will have better success.

Jesse,
I opened a document, not a template. However, once I
change the document, I can only save it as a template if I
want to rename it.
Thanks,
Marisa

Marisa,

I really does sound as though you've opened a template,
albeit without realizing. I see that Graham also agrees.
It may have once been a document that you accidentally
saved as a template, in which case it will look exactly
the same as a document, with one exception, you cannot
save it as anything other than a template when you open
it. So, how do you get around that?

Try going to File | New | and searching there. Click on
the various templates there, especially Normal, or
default. Once you've located the template this way, you
can again save it as a document.
