Saving different project versions

Hi

We are using Project Server 2003.

In Enterprise features we have defined two versions; Published and Test.

I thaught that I could save my published project as version Test and then do
different experiments with my plan. Then, when satisfied with my "new" plan I
could save it as published again. But this will not work, I get a message
that I cannot save my test version over my standard/published project. Have I
got this all wrong? Is there a way I can save my test version as published?
