Saving Documents to the E Drive

I am unable to save as a document to my E drive. I continue to get "this is
a read-only document" and "You do not have permission". I am the
administrator and I have not set the document as read only.

How do I change the way word opens New under file? It no longer shows the
box with various templates instead a task pane opens where I must select
general templates.

As an aside, if your E: drive is removable media (ie not a normal hard disk)
don't under any circumstances save a document to it. See the other thread.

It is a hard drive. The file name iw GWildsNP1. After making a change to
document under file I click save as, I then change the drop down window from
My Documents to Drive E. I then encounter the problem as stated before...

You need to Customise the Toolbar adding the old New command to it. I've not
got Word2003 installed, but it is easy to find in the list of Commands when
you select All Commands.

It sounds like a permissions issue for the drive. Here's an article
that lists permissions for Windows 2000, they will be similar for
Windows XP:

Thank you for referring me to the article regarding "permission". However, I
need an answer to resolve this issue. I did not find any information telling
me how to correct the problem. I am very frustrated with word. Please
refer to my question.

Please explain how/what steps to I need to perform to customize the toolbar
adding the old New Command? I have tried to do this but have not been
successful and continue to have the same problem. Thank you!

Without W2003 in front of me, I am doing this from memory...

Right-click on a toolbar and select Customise
From the Categories list select All Commands
From the Commands list search for the File New command (and there are
several of these and I cannot remember which one is appropriate, so you may
have to try them in turn!)
Drag and drop this command onto a position on a toolbar where you want it to
appear
I usually assign it the standard File, Open button by copying the button
face
Close the Customise dialog.
Make sure that you save the changes to the global template when you close
Word.
