Saving E-mails When Reinstalling Office 2007

Hi:

I need to reinstall Office 2007 on my computer. Is there a way to save my
E-mails and My Favorites before uninstalling the software, so that I can
bring them back into Word 2007 when the new installation is completed?

Thanks.

You should make a backup of the PST file periodically so as not to lose
important information in the event of a hard drive crash or malware
infestation. As to the Office installation , just simply install it. No
problem. Bigger question, why are you UNinstalling it?

I'm uninstalling the software because I'm getting the message that the
software will be marked "not genuine" in 9 days, and I've got new, genuine MS
software on its way to me right now.

Once the new software is installed, how do I bring the saved PST file into
Word?

Thanks.

Just UNinstall the old and then install the new. The PST file will stay
in the right place. Also Outlook is the application that uses the PST
for storing your e-mail, contacts etc, Word is for documents.

Bob:

Are you saying that when I open Word 2007 after I've installed the genuine
version of Office 2007, that the E-mails I previously had in Word 2007 will
all be in Word 2007 just as they are for me right now when I open the program
for the first time?

Bob I,

I've just seen this thread and it interests me: are you saying that you can
uninstall Office and then reinstall it and it will automatically find your
emails? If not, how would you instruct it to find the PST file? Would this
work for Office 2003 after a trial period of Office 2007?

Again, Microsoft Outlook is for e-mail. You will need to open Outlook to
read e-mail. In earlier versions of Office, Word could be used as the
editor for Outlook, but Outlook is what is used for e-mail. You would
not have had e-mails in Word.

Thanks, Bob. I meant to say "Outlook" instead of "Word" in my previous posts
on this.

So when I reinstall Office 2007 and then open Outlook 2007, my previous
E-mail messages will automatically come into Outlook from the PST file? Will
this include notations for any red flags for the E-mails I've previously
flagged like this?

Thanks again.

Yes it should all be there, as I said before though, you should be
making backup copies of the PST in the event that something happens to
the file, hard drive or operating system.

Thanks again, Bob.

Do you know what the exact name of the PST file or folder is so that I can
search for it by name and then back it up to an external hard drive?

It took some weeding through that post to find the way to locate that file in
Outlook 2007, as a lot of the information was for earlier versions of Outlook.

But it seems that the way to do it is with Outlook 2007 open to go to
File>Data File Management, and then the information is right there in front
of you. The name of the file is Outlook.pst, and when you search for the file
on the hard drive you need to enable the feature that allows for searching
for hidden files and folders.

The size of that file on my hard drive is almost 400 mb, which seems large.
But I'm guessing that with all of the attachments to the 3900 items in my
Inbox and the 3700 spam E-mails I currently have in that folder, it could be
the right size for all of this information.

Do you have any recommendations on what to do if when I open Outlook 2007
after reinstalling it, all of my old E-mails don't automatically come into my
Inbox?

Thanks again.
