Saving Emails with Attachments - Can't Open Attachments

I have been saving my emails to a file in .msg format. This was the only
format that would show the attachments. What I have now discovered is that
when I go to a saved email in my documents folder and I open it, it shows up
just like an email in Outlook but when I try to open the attachment it tells
me that the object can not be found. Can someone tell me if there is a way
to remedy this or if I am doing something wrong when I am saving? I need to
be able to access the attachments of these saved files. Please advise - any
help would be appreciated.

Is there any particular reason you need to save emails outside of Outlook?

Please try an experiment. Instead of "Save As" try Drag and Dropping the
e-mail onto the opened target folder. Also try a different folder than
"My Documents". Is the saved .msg file size reflect the attachment?

You tried using plain text and rich text to show the attachments? Were you
receiving these emails from a Mac user?

I save outside of Outlook in the event that I need to access after a failure.
Also I keep copies of all emails for my records. This is crucial for me to
be able to go back and access information sent to me.

I tried what you have suggested but I get the same result. The email opens
showing the attachment just like it does in outlook but then when you select
the attachment the preview does not work and when you try to open it just
says "this operation failed". The saved file does seem to reflect the size
of the attachment.

As I replied to your other post - if you use Outlook in a stand alone
setting, then all your emails are already in a pst file on your HDD. There
is no need to save them outside Outlook. All you need to do is to make a
backup copy at certain intervals of your pst file.

Try r-clicking the attachment in the "saved" email and then select Save
As, and after it has been saved open it from the new location. There is
something going awry, but the question is where. Has disk cleanup been
done on this PC? Or the temporary OLK folder ever been cleaned out.

I think there are some misconceptions here. It seems that the OP doesn't
realise that his emails already ARE on the HDD, in the pst file.
I've yet to extract a reason WHY he needs to save them outside of Outlook in
the first place.

Since you cannot open msg files in any program other than Outlook, you're not
protecting yourself from anything by creating them. Use Gordon's approach and

I'm past that part, I'm trying to figure out why the attachments bomb. I
can save .msg files most anywhere and the attachments work, just fine.

I tried saving and opening that way but it says "Cannot save the attachment."
I am sorry to bother you all with this, but it seems strange.

I periodically run disk clean up. I have never gone directly to the Temp
Outlook folder and cleaned that out.

Please advise if you can.
