Saving existing document results in .tmp filename

Hi,
When an existing Word 2003 document is opened, editied and then the user
clicks on "Save" Word will rename the file to one of those "wrlxxxx.tmp"
filenames, and save it to a temp folder. I know Word does this in the
background automatically, but it is getting hung up somewhere. The user has
to remember to click on "Save As" and manually re-enter the proper file name
each time.

Has anyone come across this before? If so, what was the solution? I have
reinstalled office 2003, but it didn't help.
