saving formatting restrictions settings

You can limit formatting to a certain selection of styles by doing
Tools > Protect Document, but I am looking for a way that I can save
these settings of permitted styles from one document to another.

I want users to employ only certain styles, and I'm looking for a
mechanism to do this.Users aren't going to want to manually check off
permitted styles every time they declare a new document or open one
created by another user.

Hi Kevin,

I use Word 2003.

If you're looking for a way to restrict your users' ability of certain
Word styles for all documents they use, I'm guessing it might require
changing the "normal.dot" template on each of their systems (which is
the default template for blank documents when one opens Word).

Suzanne Barnhill, (one of the experts here), has an excellent article
about this subject:

http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm

Best of luck with this!
