saving htm as html file

Can someone tell me how to change htm to html file? My file name for my
webpage ends with .htm and my server says I have to resave it .html file. in
order to view it on the web. I can not find any instructions on doing this.

The only page you need to change is your site's home page, in folder view, just rename it to have
the .html extensions.

If the live/remote site has the FP extensions, then using File Menu | Publish Site should
automatically rename the page as required by your web host.

Hi Thomas,
My server does have FP extensions but but when I published it didn't change
it.
So can I just right click my index.htm and reanme it index.html. Or does it
make the file unstable?

When I go to folder- view and right click on index.htm to rename to
index.html a box comes up and says changing a filename extension it may
become unusable.

Thanks Andrew. Why I'm about ready to throw my computer out the window is
that I published my web to my server. I see that my server has it under their
files link but my webpage is not appearing when I try to open it and the
message said it may be because I need to resave the htm to html. How do I
overwrite or replace their temp. page -index.html with the one I created?
I'm totally stuck...............

when you're connected through FP to the server, simply right click the file,
select "rename" from the context menu, then the file name goes into 'rename'
mode, so you can type a new file name, press enter, and it renames the file.
in your case, you simply want to remove the 'l' from "html", so it's easy
enough. If it doesn't work that means the server requires 'index.html'
rather than 'index.htm' as the default (home page) file.

Other solution, rename the one on the local machine to match the one on the
server - that will get rid of the 'file exists on remote but not local'
message.

Thanks Andrew, After a very looong day my husband and I figured it out. The
Server didn't "mention" that you had to go into the files and delete
"default.html". So now I'm on the web although my site isn't finished I just
wanted to make sure I could view it!
