Saving in Word 2008 format in Word 2004?

In Word 2004 I've just noticed the option to save in Word 2008 format.
Which leaves me wondering how long I've been blind to that option.

Sure enough Word 2004 saves in .docx format with with a suitably
different icon. And then, when offered the file it's just produced, it
warns that some characteristics of the Word 2008 file might be lost, but
opens it when requested.

That ability was gained as a result of installing the OXML Converter
package. It enables Opening .docx files as well as saving in that format but
does not add any of the new features of Office 2008. The key word in the
warning is "might" - which appears 3-4 times in that message. Word 2004
doesn't know what's in the .docx file until it actually opens it - it's just
letting you know that you're opening a file which "might" not behave as
expected once opened.
