Saving in Word on Vista

Word Crashes

When I try to save word files I am editing they crash, won’t save and the
disappear.

I get the following sequence of events:
· Check the drive to make sure the door is closed and it contains the
correct disk. (I know I am saving to original location on the HD)
· Word failed reading from this file (~WRL2166). Please reset the network
connection or replace the floppy disk and retry

When I click retry it just puts this message up repetitively
When I click CANCEL the following happens.

Word has lost data due to bad network connection or missing floppy
· Docs relating to this data are going to be saved and then closed.
· Word cannot save or crate this file.
· Disk may write –protected (It is not)

Try one or more of the following.
· Free up more memory.
· Make sure the disk you want to save to is not full up or damaged.

C:/Recovered doc.t

Click OK

Word to save as (~WRL2166) as word document

(Saves very very slowly.)

Now the file that was being worked on now disappears from the folder and is
not in the Recycle Bin and cannot be found via a search.

~WRL2166 appears in the folder as Microsoft Word Document. It will open but
with lots of tiny squares and some of the text jumbled and not complete

~WRL2166 is also in the folder as a temp file but will not open with Word or
WordPad

I have reinstalled the office 2000 package but it makes no difference.

I have had a new Dell computer with Vista for about three weeks and this
happened from the word go.

This doesn’t seem to happen with new docs I am working on.

Any ideas will be gratefully received. Solutions even more gratefully received

Ian
