Saving information on desktop with Win XP

How do I save the information contained on my desktop? I've REFRESHED
(whatever that implies) but would like to save that information on my
Western Digital backup disk in case the computer crashes and I want to
recover all that information for a new computer.

This newsgroup supports Microsoft Access, a relational database. It isn't
