Saving issues: router/file sharing

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

Sometimes on my laptop, save file, but Excel wont allow the save. Can't remember why or the error message, but clearly it's happening becuse the file resides on my G5 and is being hosted on the laptop via file sharing in the house. Any ideas to prevent this issue? thanks!
