Saving Label Templates

I just downloaded a label template (Avery 8871) and now I'd like to
save it so it can be accessed from the label wizard in Word 2004 for
Mac. Where does it go?

You need to use the template just as you would any other template.

You can't do it that way. Check "Labels" in the Help - Create custom labels.
You'll have to get all the dimensions you need to know, either from that
template if it has the info or by measuring an actual label, and then fill
in all the details in Tools/Labels or the Label dialog of Data merge
Manager. There's nowhere you can just store the template you downloaded.
