Saving long documents in Word 2002

Steve Smith

Hello
I hope someone is able to help me. I am writing a long
document in Word that includes around 30 embedded
pictures (jpegs either copied and pasted, or inserted
using the Insert menu). Every time a save it after having
inserted a jpeg (usually no bigger than 70kb), the file
size jumps by about 6mb. Over the w/end I took the file
home to work on it on my home PC that has Word 2000. When
I opened it and saved it in Word 2000, the file size fell
from 124mb to 4mb and stayed around that size after
adding text. All pix and graphics were still there as
were the previous versions.
I brought the file into work today. After saving it in
Word 2002 just now (just a couple of lines of text were
added) the file size jumped from 4mb to 12mb. This is
very peculiar. Does anyone have any explanations and
suggestions how to resolve this huge rise in file size
that does not occur in Word 2000?
Thanks
Steve

There are a number of reasons for excessive file size, including:

1. Fast Saves: Disable this at on the Save tab of Tools | Options.

2. Preview Picture: Clear the check box on the Summary tab of File |
Properties.

3. Versions (File | Versions): Make sure "Automatically save version on
close" is not turned on.

4. Revisions (Tools | Track Changes):
Highlight Changes: Make sure "Highlight changes on screen" is turned on.
Accept/Reject Changes: If "Accept All" or "Reject All" is available then
revisions are present; accept or reject all changes, then turn Track Changes
off.

5. Embedded True Type fonts (Tools | Options | Save); embedding fonts should
be avoided wherever possible.

6. Embedded graphics: When feasible, it is preferable to link the graphics.

7. Document corruption: See

Hi
Thanks. It appears that the file was corrupted. I saved
it to an mht file and then back to a .doc file. that did
the trick.
