Saving modified "table normal" style in user template?

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel My lab's new style guide dictates the use of a serif font for body text and a sans serif font for tables. I can changed the "table normal" style to use a sans serif font as required, but when I save the template it doesn't take — I can create a new document based on the template, and the "table normal" style defaults back to the serif font associated with the "normal" style. Any suggestions? The workaround is to define a custom table style and propagate all of the other table styles from it instead, but even then a new table created without formatting will use the "normal" font until the new style is applied manually.

Table Styles have always been -- and continue to be -- an exercise in
futility, frustration... etc. You may be interested in approaching from a
different direction. Have a look at pages 65 & 124 in Clive Huggan's
immortal "Bend Word to Your Will" available as a free download here:

http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Bend/BendWordToYourWill.html

Although it hasn't been updated for Word 2008 you should have no trouble
adapting -- the program hasn't changed much in this regard.

Thanks for the info. I'd already begun moving in an alternate direction anyhow, defining a character style including the font characteristics I want that I can apply after the fact. This is made more awkward by the fact that this will likely end up being shared with people using Office 2007 under various flavours of Windows. Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to the roll-out.

Thanks again.

Sadly, I am afraid you are right: Table Styles look like they work in
Office 2007, but they don't. Your users will waste a lot of time finding
that out, and you will waste a lot of time fixing the result...

Cheers
