saving MS Word 2003 files as PDF

Ausangate

Hi All,

I understand that by installing a package from Microsoft, one can save
Office 2007 files as PDFs. Is there such Microsoft package available for MS
Office 2003?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Gordon,

thanks for your feedback. My problem with freeware packages such as
PDFcreator or pdf4free is that html-type hyperlinks are not active, while for
instance, email links do work (this never happens if I use standard packages
from Adobe).
Should you have any feedback on tricks/special tags to make it work at all
times with these freeware printers I would really appreciate it.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best,

I use PrimoPDF on my laptop and I just created a simple file with a web
address, www.google.com. I converted to with PrimoPDF and although it does
not appear as a hyperlink, when I pass my cursor over it, it changes to a
finger and allows me to click on it. I get the security warning because I
use Vista but it does link me to Google.

No special tricks, no special codes.

Just so you know, that feature is only available with Adobe Reader v7, if I
recall correctly. Older versions of Reader don't react the same way.

Hi there JoAnn,

once again, thank tou very much for your feedback.

Sorry to take your time with this yet another time but I downloaded PrimoPDF
and still face the same problem (i.e. html links are not active; email works
OK). Strangely enough, if I convert the very same file with the online
version of PrimoPDF, it does work... (?!).

I get the same with the www.google.com page, which rules out the possibility
of there being something insanely peculiar about the file I tested.

Also, I found a forum in which people whine about the same problem:

http://forums.primopdf.com/showthread.php?p=3915

I cannot tell what could I be doing wrong. Perhaps you use a combination of
PrimoPDF settings that somehow makes it work. My OS is XP and I am running
Adobe Reader 7.0.

Thanks a million for your help.
Best,
Ausangate

I'm using Vista, PrimoPDF v3, and Reader v8. I know that I get the same
results at work where I use XP Pro.

When you say the links aren't active, can you tell me what you mean by that?
I know what it sounds like to me but I'd like to rule out miscommunication.

Hi JoAnn,

Thank you so much for your patience.

I am running XP Home, PrimoPDF 3.2 and Reader 7.0.

In brief let’s say I have:

A - a hyperlink defined by the word "amazon" (and tagged with the hidden
address http://www.amazon.com)

B - the full visible address of the website "www.amazon.com" (with that same
tag)

A, will not work; B, will be fine.

Now, is there a way of having example A being an active link, "with the
cursor changing to a finger and taking me somewhere when I click it", as it
happens with B, using PrimoPDF? Again, the online version of PrimoPDF works
either way.

I certainly don’t blame you if you think my depiction is still beyond
obscure. As you can certainly tell, I am far from being IT proficient... and
easy to understand in general.

Again, thank you very much!

Best

Ausangate,

I have used PrimoPDF for quite a while now and you are correct, it will not
activate a hyperlink using a text name. It must be the full address for
PrimoPDF to see it as a hyperlink. This is something that we struggled with
for a while with our newsletters that we do in Publisher and print them to
PDF, until of course we started using the add-in for Office 2007.

Regards,
Jeff
