Saving Offline

I have followed Dale Howard's instructions to the letter
on saving offline in Project 2002, but it's not working
for me. When I save offline, the file in server has the
status of Offline. When I look at in in PWA it shows it's
checked out. However, it's not saved to my harddrive. I've
done a search on the whole system, it's not there. When I
go back into server I can open it, and then I have to save
online. I have also checked the persmissions in PWA and
every group has "Go Offline" checked on. Am I missing
something? Any help would be appreciated.

When you save a file Offline, it is meant for you to work with it in Offline
mode, such as when you are traveling away from your computer network. It is
NOT intended for you to send the file to someone via e-mail, which is what I
suspect you are trying to do. Am I right? If you are trying to e-mail a
project file to someone, then you should click File - Save As, click the
Save As File button, and save it as an .mpp file. I do not recommend this
approach, however, especially is the other person is going to enter actuals
in the project plan and e-mail it back to you.

If you are trying to work with your project while you are traveling, to open
the Offline file, you need to be logged into Project Server in Offline mode.
Are you doing that in the Microsoft Project Server Accounts dialog box when
you launch Microsoft Project? Remember to select your account name and to
click the Work Offline button (do not select the My Computer option as your
account). To open the file in Offline mode, click File - Open dialog box
and you will see any projects you have saved in Offline mode. To save your
Offline file while you are traveling, simply click File - Save.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

No, I was not trying to email the file, just trying to
work on it disconnected from the network. I would never
have guessed selecting my network account and selecting
work offline. I've looked this up several places, starting
with help. It needs to be better documented, that is not
intuitive at all.

Thanks for the note. I'm glad the explanation helped. Yes, I would agree
that the steps are not intuitive. Good luck with working offline! :)
