Saving Powerpoint 2007 Presentation

why doesn't powerpoint 2007 save presentation as 2007 (.ppsx) rather than
..pps? Is this why hyperlinks do not work on CD-RW?

In powerpoint 2007, if you click the "office" button (top left), and choose
the "powerpoint options" button,
then click the "save" option on the left side, you can now set the "default"
of what powerpoint 2007 will choose when you save a file.

the main options are
powerpoint 97-2003

or powerpoint presentation (eg. a powerpoint 2007 .pptx)

If you want to save as a .ppts (a powerpoint 2007 show that should start to
play automatically),

then do a
office button > save as > change the drop down file type, by scrolling down
the list until you see "powerpoint show .ppts"


But that's probably not the reason why your hyperlinks are not working.

Hyperlinks to web sites should just be fine.
Hyperlinks to local files on your computer will probably fail when moved to
another computer, that may not have the files in the same place.

eg
c:\users\yourunique username\mypictures.jpg

c:\users\someone elses computers\directory\mypictures.jpg

Do you use "Save as" or "Package for CD"? If you Package for CD and include
the Viewer, the presentation will be converted to 97-2003 format (PPS),
because the 2007 Viewer cannot be run from CD. And saving down to the old
file format converts everything using the new graphic effects (bevels, 3D,
etc.) into PNG images, which might use their hyperlinks.

So the question is: Do you really need the PowerPoint Viewer on CD? If you
do not include it, your presentation will be saved in PPSX format. But you
will need the full version of PowerPoint 2007 to view it, as 2003 plus
Compatibility Pack as well s PowerPoint Viewer 2007 will both internally
convert to the old file format.

I'm trying to copy or save .ppsx to CD-RW but get the following: "The folder
D:\*.* isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable
location, protected w/password, or filename contains a / or \." I've tried
from Powerpoint and from Windows Explorer. Am wanting to be able to insert
this CD into on co-workers computers so they can view the sldie presentation.

Save the PPSX file to your harddrive, then use your CD burning software (or
Windows's CD burning capability) to put the file on the CD.
