Saving powerpoint files

I just installed Office 08. Every time I save a new powerpoint presentation, it saves it on my desktop as an Excel file. That is, even though it opens up as a powerpoint presentation, it is displayed as an Excel icon on my desktop. Any thoughts?

Wow, that sounds bizarre! I can't say I've seen it happen before. Could you
tell me a little more about the configuration of your Mac? What happens when
you save an Excel file?
