Saving Project file as XML

Hi folks,

I want to save my Project as an XML file. Next I want to make updates to
the XML file and finally I would like to write the XML data back to a Project
file with an MPP file extension.

Can this be done. If not, then how?

Thanks ,
- glenn

Project 2002 onwards have a save as xml option on the file menu. You can
edit the xml and then re-open it. Be careful not to break the schema though.

Hi Rod,

I am fully aware of why it is important not to break the xml schema.

My original question is a bit off the routine file transfer. What I want
to do is to take an XML or even an Access MDB file that has been saved while
Project is open. Then I want to update the XML or MDB file while Project is
closed and then finally I want to convert the XML or MDB file to a MPP
Project file all being done when MS Project is not running.

The reason I am looking to do this is because I have a MS Project Viewer
that only opens MPP files and the viewer runs on my web app so I need to
somehow convert the MDB or XML file to an MPP all programatically.

You can only create a .mpp file from within Project. xml files can be edited
and .mdb files can be edited (thoroughly digest pjdb.htm in project's
program folder).

You then need to open the edited files in Project to save back as a .mpp
file.

Hi,
We've said it implicitly several times, but if you prefer it explicitly: you
can only save as mpp with Project open.
Hope this helps

Hi Rod and Jan,

Ok, sorry for beating this dead horse. I really appreciate your feedback
even when it might not be what I want hear. I value this forum more than I
can tell you.

Thanks again,
- Glenn
