Saving Project with a note in the summary task.

In project 2003 I keep track of my changes to project plans by entering
information in the notes field of the top level (zero) summary task. After
any change to the original note I get this irritating message EVERY TIME the
project is saved:
"There are multiple lines of text in the existing note. If you change teh
note here, all lines of text except the first line, and all formatting will
be removed.
If yu do not want to lose any text or formatting, edit the notes by clicking
the Notes button on the Standard toolbar.
Do you want to change the note anyway?" Yes or No

I get the same result whether I click yes or no. Nothing happens to the
note. I don't have any special formatting but the contents remains.

Is there some code I'm missing that I need to turn off or on to stop this
message from appearing?

I get that note only if I change the "Summary Task" note from File/Properties
and make changes in teh Comments box of the Summary tab.

However, if I double click the summary level task (Level 0) on the Gantt
chart and then pull the notes tab, I can enter notes there and save the file
without the annoying message. See if that works.

Sorry, but that doesn't help. I never change or save from File/Properties. I
always double-click the summary task and go in the Notes tab. I'm not even
adding or changing the notes in any way.

Hi Brekada,

I don't know if this helps any, but I do see some odd behavior when I
add a multi-line note any task (doesn't have to be a summary task) and
then attempt to edit the note through the Notes field added to a table.
I get a message which says:
"The existing note includes multiple lines of text. You can only enter
multiple lines of text by using the Notes tab. If you change the note
in the table, all lines of text except for the first line, and all
formatting will be removed. Doyou want to change the notein the table
anyway? ....."

If I modify a note through the Notes tab, no error message is generated.

Interestingly enough, notes added to the Project Summary Task (line 0)
seem to loose formatting (bold, color, etc.) when I save the file. All
other notes text seems to retain formatting.

I am running Project 2003 Professional with SP2.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Brekada,
Just a suggestion based on what Julie wrote. If the Project Summary Task
Notes field for some unknown reason acts differently than the Notes
field for any other task, then create your own Project Summary Task and
use the Notes field for that.

Just for reference, there is a big difference between editing the Notes
field through Project/Task Information/Notes tab versus editing the
Notes field as a column in a view. When the Notes field is displayed as
a column, it can only display up to 255 characters or the first line
feed, whichever comes first.

Please explain "create your own summary task."
Nothing has helped yet, although if I have notes in any outline 1 task I do
not get the message. Only when the message is at outline 0.

Hi,

Insert a task on line 1 and indent all the rest one level, that is your "own
top level task"

Brekada,
It looks like Jan filled in the gaps.

FYI,

I was getting the same message when I was using VBA to edit &
manipulate some of the Document Properties in project 2003 SP3 (Pro &
Std)
