Saving Search folders and Custom views

I went looking for views.dat and can't seem to find it. It's suppose
to have folder views saved in it but it does not exist and I have
created 9 custom views for my email folders. I looked under local and
roaming folders but cannot find the views.dat file.

Also I have taken some time to create search folders and included
automatic formating but haven't seen a way to backup all of Outlooks
settings.

I'm using Outlook 2007 btw.

Custom folder views are not stored in views.dat, which is an archaic file
used to hold Windows custom folder views in Outlook. Outlook hasn't
supported showing Windows folders from Outlook shortcuts since Outlook 2002.
Custom Outlook folder views are stored within the .PST file, so to back up
the views, back up the .PST. You can delete the data from the copied .PST to
save space (make sure you don't mess with the original!).

I'm pretty sure that Search Folders are saved with the .PST file as well. I
don't know if there is any other way to back them up than to just keep
regular backups of your .PST, which is a good idea anyway.

By the way, most Outlook files are located within hidden Windows folders, so
you'd have to include hidden folders in your search criteria if you're
looking for them.

I wish they were easier to backup and use with other folders. I have
pop accounts and IMAP accounts and can't get them to share the custom
views that I create which means creating them again for IMAP accounts.

Outlook tends to treat POP and IMAP data files differently and sometimes you
can't share things in between them (the same thing goes for HTTP data files
if you're connected to, say, a Hotmail account). You're right, it is
frustrating.
