Saving Settings in Office XP

I choose the Cat as the Office assistant. If I close any
of the Office applications and re-open the Office
assistant has changed back to the paper-clip.
In the Autocorrect for Word, I check the box "Show
autoComplete Tip for AutoText and dates". If I close Word
re-open the box is unchecked.
Obviously my settings are being saved. Can anyone tell me
what I am doing wrong or is there somewhere to
acting "save settings on closing"?
