Saving to Disk

J

Jean Coyle

I saved quite a few Word docs and folders from my hard
drive to diskette. I double-checked a few, and they were
copying and opening up just fine. At some point, I heard
my floppy drive making a slight noise, when normally I
hear nothing from it.

Now, when I try to open a disk, I get an error message to
the effect that there is no "access" to the disk. If I
insert a new disk and try to copy from my hard drive, I
get an error message also. Is my floppy drive "shot?" Do
I need to replace the drive? My computer is 4.5 years old;
although, I have rarely used my floppy drive until now.
So it's not really been overworked. Any help?

Never _ever_ do anything having to do with a floppy drive from within Word.
Doing so will corrupt files. Do your work within Word on documents /
templates stored on your hard drive. If you want something copied to or from
a floppy, do it from Windows with Word closed.

Try using a brand new blank formatted floppy. Can you, from Windows, copy
documents to the floppy?
