Saving to Network Share not working

I am getting this error when trying to save to the network share

e:\\test.doc cannot be found check your spelling or try a different path

this does not happen when I have a previous document with the same name on
the share already. I am using Word 2007 and have tried saving as .doc and
also as .docx and neither one seems to matter. This error does not occur if I
am saving it to the local hard drive. Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated.
