Hi there,
A problem on several of our Macs here after updating to 10.4.3. This
problem doesn't happen in 10.4.2 or previous versions of Tiger, nor in
Panther.
If I open a Word doc from an SMB share, edit it and go to save I am
told there is a 'naming or permissions error'. I've not renamed the
file - it's the same name as when I opened it and is a perfectly legal
Windows filename.
At this point the file on the server is renamed as a Word Work File.
Upon closing the document this Word Work File is deleted. Hence trying
to edit any file on the server results in its deletion!
The same thing happens with new docs being saved to the server - I am
given the 'naming or permissions' error and the Work file is created,
then when I close the doc without saving it is lost (Work File
deleted).
The SMB share is the Home directory as specified in Active Directory -
we are logging in with AD authentication and this share is
automatically mounted. The Mac Home Folder is local though.
Luckily I've only updated 10 of our 300 Macs here to 10.4.3 so far, but
any idea of what is going on would be welcome. I'd suspect some problem
with server permissions except that nothing has changed in permissions
on the server. Also operating system versions before 10.4.3 don't have
this problem - same account logs on to a 10.4.2 machine and
everything's fine.
There were updates (improvements?) to SMB on the 10.4.3 update, so I'm
wondering if something in there has either caused a problem, or has
brought to light some other error with our setup that wasn't evident
until this update.
Any advice welcome before I have to go round 10 machines rebuilding
them back to 10.4.2!
Cheers
