Saving version number automatically

If somebody knows how to display version number( in
format 1.0, later 1.1) by saving template or document.
What field should I select or code should use? Is it done
with macros?
So when I make changes to a template and save it, the
version number changes from 1.0 to 1.1

How do you want to ensure that the program knows whether the new version is
a 1.0 to 2.0 update, or a 1.0 to 1.1 update, or even 1 1.0.0 to 1.0.1
update?

Don't know how. I would like it to be a 1.0 to 1.1
update. (It would follow by 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 ....1.9., 2.0,
2.1 ...) How can we increase the number by 1( let's say
1,2,3..) by saving a template?
