Saving Views to global.mpt via Organizer

I consider myself a better-than-average MS Project user. But I can't seem to
get views that I create saved into the global.mpt so that they are available
to other .mpp files that I open. I get the view just the way I want it,
click Tools > Organizer (or More Views > Organizer). Then select the view in
the right-side list, click << Copy. It then appears on the left side. I
click Close.

Then if I open another .mpp file, and try to switch to my "new" view -- it's
not the same as I had worked so long and hard to get right!

I've tried saving my .mpp files, then exiting Project. I see the "saving
global.mpt" activity bar in the lower left. I then re-start Project, and
open a file (not the one in which I had created the view), try again to
switch to my new view. Still not what I expect!

What's the trick? What am I doing wrong? It's a real pain to have to
continually recreate this view....

Any tips very much appreciated. Thanks!

A view is based on more than one thing. It typically is based on a specific
table, grouping (if any) and filter (if any).
You need to copy those items over as well.

I start first with a table and name it the same as the view. For example if
I am making a view called _Presentation (the underscore cause it to sort
near the beginning of the list of views) then the first thing to do is
create a " _PresentationTable". If I want the information filtered (common
when presenting) then I'll create a new filter and name it
_PresentationFilter. Once those two are complete you can create the view and
base it on those two.

Jack,

That is just what I needed! I copied the Table along with the View (both
renamed first) into global.mpt. Closed my .mpp file. Opened another one and
switched to my new 'special' view, and it was just exactly what I wanted.

Thanks VERY much. Really do appreciate it!
