Saving Woes: Format missing in Word 2001

I'm trying to save my document in (Word for Mac OS X) another format
(e.g. *.rtf or *.html), but after choosing 'Save As' there's no
'Format' option! I'm at a loss. While I'm sharing my difficulties, I
want to save my file in a Windows-friendly way for my PC friends but I
can only save it as *.dot. Why can't I save it as a *.doc?

Ha! We went round this a couple of days ago. Google the group for
"saving as documents from templates".

It is because your file is a template. aka .dot

Here is how to rescue it. Place it in your templates folder, I'll
assume you are really on v.X and not 2001 - it will be
/Applications/Microsoft Office X/Templates/My Templates or thereabouts.

Then open a new document based on it via the project gallery. That guy
will save as a .doc and all the other flavours you mention. Your
buddies on the other side should have no trouble opening the .doc
