saving word 2000 files to zip 100 drive

I am having a problem saving word 2000 files to my
Iomega Zip 100 drive. My OS is XP home. Sometime a
newly created file will save ok. Other times I get
a "cannot create file/folder" message. Also, when I pull
a file up for editing and attempt to resave this file to
the Zip drive, I either get a "cannot create" or a file
permission error. The files will save to my hard drive
no problem.

Saving/opening files using Word and removable media is a risky proposition
at best. A "best practice" with Word is *always* to copy files to your hard
drive, edit the hard drive versions using Word, then close the files in
Word, and finally, to copy the changed files back to the removable media
using Windows Explorer.

The problem has to do with the way Word creates temporary files when
editing. Sometimes, such files are huge -- often many times larger than the
original file. Unless the host media has enough room, problems can occur.
Even then, there are risks. If you happen to remove a disk before the file
has been completely closed by Word, you can also end up corrupting the file
(often unrecoverably).
