Saving Word Doc as .mht To Use Tabbed Browsing

Would anyone know what I need to do when saving a MS Word document to a .mht
(.htm) file such that it will utilize tabbed browsing.
Currently, any link in the .mht file is forced to open in a new window.

I'm using IE7 with Tabbed Browsing enabled.
(set to create a new tab when I middle-click on a link, but not open till I
click on the tab itself)

Correction, I'm sorry, it's not opening in a NEW window. It opens in the
SAME window or same Tab.
This requires a "page back" to get to the original .mht file.

Also, the .mht file is local and the links are to items on the internet.
