Saving Word Document as READ ONLY

I want to save my word document as read only ..I don't
want the user to be prompt...I want the user to open it
with out having permission to edit it.
When I save the doc using read only recommended checked
off (save as security option) with a password, when I open
the document again, it prompts me for a password, not as
read-only or a pasword prompt box that says, go ahead open
document in read only? If I save only as read only
recommended, then the user can of course edit the document.

How do I save the document so it is ONLY READ ONLY?

Sorry, but when I save as, there is no option to convert
to .PDF
Did I miss some kind of custom download option when I
loaded MS Office on to my computer? I bet not. I've got a
feeling you are talking about some 3rd party vendor
software that has to be bought just so that this expensive
software can actually produce a secure document.

Hi Mark,

Protect the document for Forms and assign a password via Tools>Protect
Document. That make that one document so that the user will not be able to
edit it. However, if they insert that file into another document then they
will be able to edit it.

The expensive piece of software to which you refer was designed to allow
people to create and edit documents.
