Saving Word Documents

Hi, I am running Windows XP and using Office 2000. I recently bought a 1GB
flash drive and am having trouble saving some Word documents to it. I get an
error msg with the title 'Error Copying File or Folder' with the msg 'Cannot
copy (file name): The directory or file cannot be created.' I don't have a
problem saving these files on a floppy though. Any suggestions or ideas for
me? Thanks!

You should not be working on Word documents in Word on removable media.
Period. If you want to be able to use your documents, when working within
Word, act as if your floppy drive does not exist! (This applies to CDRW/CDR
and flash drives as well.)
Don't use Word to:
Open a document on a floppy
Print a document on a floppy
Edit a document on a floppy
Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy)

Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives!

Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth
using Windows.

I know that for some with shared computers (libraries, schools) this is a
tough prescription. All I can recommend for that is to use a brand new
formatted disk each time you save and don't do any editing.

drive That is when I get the error message on certain files. Any ideas?

Please clarify that you have saved a document to your hard drive and from an
Explorer window you are trying to copy the file from the hard drive to a
flash drive?

Hi Terry, Yes, I have the Word documents saved on my hard drive in my My
Documents folder. I highlight the files and then try to copy or move them to
my E: drive which is the flash drive. I have a 1GB flash drive so I have
plenty of room. I called the maker (Geek Squad) of the flash drive and they
believe that it is a Microsoft issue. I hope that this info helps you.

This is a flash drive problem. If you are copying the files from Windows
Explorer with Word closed, then Word has no bearing on the problem. I
suggest that Geek Squad are fobbing you off. I have no problems with
Kingston, Belkin, Crucial or various other OEM flash drives.
