saving word files to a flash drive

Peter

After working OK, word files cannot now be sent or copied to my nearly empty
USB flash drives (I have the same problem on two different flash drives).
Also, I cannot save any files on the flash drive without getting "permission"
error messages and the like. Any solutions? Thx.

For removable media, the correct procedure is to save/close the file in
Word--saving to your hard drive--then use Windows Explorer to copy the file
to the removable media. When you later want to edit a file that's on
removable media, use Windows Explorer to copy it to your hard drive, edit
it, close it in Word, then copy the changed file back to the removable media
(assuming you want the changed file back on the removable disk).

The reason is to avoid file corruption. Because of the way Word creates and
uses temporary files, opening/closing files directly to removable media
often results in problems such as you're seeing, as well as file corruption
and Word crashes.

Thanks. I removed all the files from the memory stick, closed down Word, and
transferred files from Explorer as you advised. Some of the old files would
not transfer, and I cannot transfer new files, even using the method you
describe. Does this mean that the memory stick has become corrupted? Thank
you again.
