SBERET.MSI

Tom

I'm getting a missing SBERET.MSI message when I attempt
to update the Microsoft Office XP applications. I have
talked with DELL (no help at all). They contend that I
should have the file on one of my 3 CDs they sent when I
purchased the system. No luck. I have also attempted to
use the Office XP CDs that I have for another system.
Still no luck. What can I do?
The Dialog Box displays this message:
"The path 'Microsoft Office XP Small Business' cannot be
found. Verify that you have access to this location and
try again, or try to find the installation
package 'SBERET.MSI' in a folder from which you can
install the product Microsoft Office XP Small Business."
TIA,
Tom

Hi Tom,

MS Office XP Small Business Editon was an OEM (original
equipment manufacturer) only one that included the
setup file SBERET.MSI (which could appear on the CD as
SBERET if you have the display of file extensions turned
off in Windows Explorer).

If you don't have an Office XP CD then contact Dell for
a replacement or if they won't provide one you can contact
Microsoft (800) 360-7561 about replacement CDs.

I had a similar problem with a "missing" wordret.msi
file. The problem sees to come from an earlier
installation from Works or something else which the
OfficeXP installation does not overwrite in the registry.
What worked for me was to use the regedit "find" function
which found a key referring to the "missing" file. I
first exported the key, just in case, and then deleted
it, rebooted and the problem was gone. So long as you
first export the key you could reimport it if the
deletion caused problems with Office but I suspect the
better followup if the deletion causes problems would be
to reinstall Office. Good luck. Sneed
