Scale Down entire document

Using Word 2000 I have a document formatted for standard
letter paper (8.5 x 11"), which includes numerous tables.

I need to scale the document down to 5.5 x 8.5", but when
I change the paper size, the tables do not change size
and run off the page.

I know using the Print menu, you can shrink to fit any
size paper, which shrinks the entire content of the
document. Is there any way to shrink the entire document
and then save and edit in the now smaller format?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
